I'm here to tell your story...the joy, the laughs, the tears, and the memories along the way.
Have you ever felt such a connection to something? I’ll tell you about mine…
A little background first…It’s been 4 years since my business name change/re-brand and two years since my website refresh. I have grown astronomically since then, in my skill, client experience and have become a full service based photography business offering a variety of tangible heirlooms. I decided to enlist in The Buffalo Collective for this project. Christina was so amazing for my last Showit website design and I knew she would be on board for what I had imagined for this to be. I’m so glad she has been on this journey with me and was able to make sense of my ideas and incorporate them in the design and connect them to my business. Thank you for taking a piece of my story and putting it into my brand, that means so much to me!
The story…Since the time of my last website refresh, I have lost my Dad. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t wish he was here, I know that sounds cliche but not having him here has really left a hole in my family’s heart. I miss chatting with him, how he used to joke around, but most of all I miss his all-knowing advice and of course hugs. He was THE BEST to chat business with, even though he didn’t quite understand how a person could make a living for her family doing photography. But regardless, he supported my endeavours, understanding I had a passion for it just as he did in the SE Saskatchewan oilfield for 40 years.
My Dad became ill in 2013. His sickness allowed us to spend as much possible time with him as we could…we are so thankful for that time. In February of 2015 he needed surgery. Off to Regina we went, for this fairly routine procedure. He seemed fine for the first week, we were his cheering squad and what he had been through in the past two years, we’ll this just seemed like a little blip. The following week, things took a turn for the worse and we all took shifts around the clock to make sure there was someone by his side at all times for his hospital stay.
It was the most awful thing to watch your hero go thru that. The person who always made things right was fighting for their life. It came down to the decision to take his fighter-of-a-body off of life support and we all stayed close for those final hours of his last breaths. We told him how proud we were of him, my sister who was newly pregnant whispered in his ear he was going to be a Grandpa again, we held his hand, told him we loved him a million times. This was one of the most difficult moments of my entire life, tears flood my eyes thinking back.
He took his last breaths so peacefully. It came time to leave his body and get Mom to the hotel before we made the trek home the next morning. We walked out of the General Hospital around 2am and there it was….THE FULLEST MOON lighting the cold night sky on one of our darkest nights. It got all of our attention and I even think it stopped us all in our tracks as we looked up and it lit our faces.
Now, whenever a full moon is upon us, my family and I are reminded of Dad. We all feel a connection to him with the moon no matter where we are, together or apart. He’s forever our man in the moon! And even if his memory has faded a bit, the moon strengthens his memory with each cycle.
I’m so excited to unveil this little piece of my heart to you all. It was important for me to represent this connection to my Dad in this rebrand of my business because he was such a large part of my life and always will be. It has such meaning and connection and I hope I can pass that onto my clients whenever I am capturing them. Because after all, isn’t that what life is all about…the connections and love we gather throughout our lives and the memories we take along the way?

Bawling… beautiful words
Beautiful! And the connections you make with your clients can be seen in the pictures you take. Thank you for capturing Nevin and Chelsea’s Day! The pictures are amazing!
Thanks for sharing that very special moment with us!
It’s sooo important to love what you do and it truly shows that you love what you do. I’m so glad I have my family to go through the most difficult time in my life. It still hurts like a knife in my side, but the messages from him help heal. Love your new website design, Dad would be sooo proud of you and all of us. Xoxo
